Skiing does not have to be confined to just one resort; instead a carefully chosen ski holiday destination could have you skiing in some of the largest terrain in the world. To help you decide Iglu Ski have put together a fact file of the biggest ski areas in Europe where you will have a wide selection of runs, resorts, mountains and in some cases even countries to choose from.

SKI AREAS IN AUSTRIA

ARLBERG

260km of piste join the ski resorts of St. Anton, St. Christoph, Lech and Zürs, to create the Arlberg ski Circus: 134 runs, 1 snowboard park all linked by 83 lifts.

ZELL AM SEE - KAPRUN

The ski resorts of Kaprun and Zell am See are joined by 56 ski lifts to create 130km of piste, 59 runs and 1 snowboard park.

SKICIRCUS

With a new ski lift linking Saalbach-Hinterglemm-Leogang to Fieberbrunn, the ski circus is made up of 270 km of downhill skiing.

SKIWELT

The SkiWelt area is one of the largest in Austria, linking Soll, Scheffau and Ellmau. There is a total of 250km of piste with 128 runs, 1 snowpark and 93 lifts to ensure you get to experience all that is on offer during your ski holiday.

ZILLERTAL

The interlinked ski resorts of Hippach, Mayrhofen, Finkenberg and Hintertux make up the 225km of ski runs known as the Zillertal Superski area. With wide runs, moguls, plenty of off piste and a snowboard park connected by 62 ski lifts.

SKI JEWEL ALPBACHTAL WILDSCHONAU

The Ski Juwel area links the ski resorts of Niederau, Oberau and Auffach with Alpbach. The new ski area has 145km of piste and 47 lifts and is ideal for beginners.

TIROL

Tirol is a province of Austria that boasts around 80 ski resorts totalling an impressive 3,000 km of skiable terrain. Many of the best loved ski areas in Austria are within Tirol, such as Arlberg and SkiWelt. Popular ski resorts in Tirol include Kitzbuhel, Mayrhofen, Ischgl and St Anton.
 

SKI AREAS IN FRANCE

ESPACE KILLY


Tignes and neighbouring ski resort Val d'Isere make up the Espace Killy ski area. Made up of 300kms of piste with 137 different runs to choose from, 9 slalom stadiums, 2 mogul fields, 2 halfpipes, 2 snowparks and 97 lifts to get you round the mountains.

ESPACE SAN BERNARDO


The Espace San Bernado links la Rosiere in France with La Thuile in Italy giving you a choice of 73 runs, 2 slalom stadiums, 1 ski jump, and 1 snowpark spread over 150km with 37 lifts to make sure you have access to them all during your skiing holiday.

LE GRAND MASSIF


Flaine, Les Carroz, Morillon, Samoens and Sixt, together make a total of 265km of piste, 133 runs, 78 lifts and 1 snowpark, known as Le Grand Massif ski area.

LES TROIS VALLEES


Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens are the 3 main ski resorts, which combine to make one of the largest ski areas in the world, Les Trois Vallees (the 3 valleys). However, the smaller resorts of La Tania, Brides-les-Bains, Les Menuires and St Martin de Belleville are also included in this ski area comprising of 600km of piste, 293 runs, 2 snowboard parks and 185 ski lifts.

PARADISKI:


425km of piste shared between les Arcs and La Plagne make up the ski holiday area Paradiski: 238 slopes, 143 ski lifts, 4 snowparks and 2 half pipes.

PORTES DU SOLEIL


Abondance, Avoriaz, Chatel, Morzine, Les Gets, Champery and Torgon: stay at any of these resorts and you will be skiing in the Portes du Soleil ski area. Linking two countries - France and Switzerland - 650km of piste, 14 resorts, 288 slopes and 209 lifts. 

DOMAINE DE LA FORET BLANCHE


Risoul and neighbouring ski resort Vars combine together to create the largest ski area in the Southern French Alps. Offering 180km of piste, 104 runs, 1 snowboard park and 57 lifts.
 

SKI AREAS IN ITALY

THE MILKY WAY


5 ski villages form the Milky Way ski area in Italy; Cesana, Claviere, Sansicario, Sauze d'OulxSestriere and Montgenevre. Offering 400km of piste, 140 ski slopes, 93 lifts and 1 board park.

THE DOLOMITES SUPER SKI AREA


With over 1200 kms of pistes the Dolomites is the largest ski area in the world, however not all of them are linked. It is said to have some of the most breathtaking scenery and skiing in the world.

The resorts include Selva Val Gardena, Val Di Fassa, FolgaridaMadonna di Campiglio, Alta Badia, Arraba, Alleghe and Cortina combining to form the Dolimiti Super Ski area in Italy which incoporates the Sella Ronda.  

BREUIL CERVINIA VALTOURNENE ZERMATT


With skiing up to 3883m, the Breuil-Cervinia Valtournnche Zermatt area is one of the highest and most snow-sure ski areas in Europe, and links Cervinia in Italy to Zermatt in Switzerland.

GRAUBUNDEN


Over 1,000 peaks sit in this beautiful Swiss canton. Including the resorts of DavosKlostersLaaxLenzerheideSavognin and St Moritz it's an area famed for choice and all-round excellent skiing.

THE 4 VALLEYS


400km of piste including the resorts of Nendaz, Thyon, Verbier and Veysonnaz. 100 runs, 1 snowpark, and 95 lifts, this area is well known for its extreme terrain.

GRANDVALIRA


This 210 km ski paradise in Andorra is the largest linked ski area in the Pryrenees and Southern Europe. Including the resorts: Soldeu, El Tarter and Pas de la Casa.
